Best Time to Visit Guam: Weather, Prices & Travel Tips

When is the best time to visit Guam? This isn’t one of those destinations you can just wing and hope for the best. If you’re planning a trip to Guam, there are some things you should consider before choosing your dates.

Guam is an incredible slice of paradise but when you go will completely shape your experience. Weather, crowds, pricing… all of it shifts more than people expect.

I’ve lived in a tropical environment for long enough to know this: timing Guam right is the difference between “this is paradise” and “why is it raining every afternoon?”

Let’s make sure you land in the first category.

So… When Is the Best Time to Visit Guam?

Short answer: January through May.

That’s Guam at its best. Less rain, more sunshine, and way more predictable days. This is considered the dry season, so you’ll have minimal rain interruptions during your stay. Being a tropical island, normally humidity is a major concern, but traveling in this window will definitely be less humid than late summer. This is also the prime time for snorkeling and diving, if you enjoy doing outdoorsy activities.

If you want Guam to feel effortless, this is your window.

When to Avoid (Or At Least Plan Carefully)

Guam’s rainy season runs July through November.

This might not be the best time to visit Guam. Rainy season doesn’t mean nonstop storms, but it does mean unpredictable weather, heavier humidity, and a higher chance of typhoons. If you’re from the southeastern US states, the typhoons will remind you of hurricane season. They operate on a similar category system, so it’s something to keep in mind. Even if you’re someone who isn’t afraid of a Category 1 storm, you may find service interruptions in flights to get to or from the island. If you plan to book your trip during this window, a comprehensive travel insurance package will be an absolute necessity.

What does rainy season actually look like? Similar to Florida. You might see sudden afternoon downpours. The cloudier skies will make the postcard-blue ocean look a little muted. The ocean conditions will be rougher too, which might be ideal for surfers, but less so for divers.

If this is your once-in-a-while big trip, I wouldn’t risk it.

The “In-Between” Months (aka Hidden Sweet Spots)

June and December are your shoulder months. They’re a bit of a gamble but can be really good if you time them right. June, for example, could be more mild like the dry season or they could invite the rainy season in early. These months might have slightly lower prices than peak dry season and smaller crowds. But you also might get some rain. So I’d say these months are best for flexible travelers who don’t require firm, structured 8am-10pm hourly itineraries.

Cheapest Time to Visit Guam

If budget is driving the decision, look at September through November. Prices are lower during this time due to lower demand and the weather. Keep in mind, your flight is still going to be the biggest chunk of your budget. Even flying from San Diego will run you about $1,500 on average. It’ll be much cheaper flight-wise to fly from the Philippines or Japan and combine two vacations in one. If something like that sounds appealing, I highly recommend working with a travel advisor to help you plan the complicated nuances that come with multi-destination travel planning.

Final Take

The best time to visit Guam is pretty subjective based on different travel styles. If you want Guam to feel like the version you’ve seen online with bright water, easy days, and zero stress, go between January and May and don’t overthink it.

If your schedule is locked outside that window, it’s not a dealbreaker. You just need to plan smarter, stay flexible, and know what you’re walking into.

If you’re already feeling like “okay… but when exactly should I go?” that’s usually where I step in.

I can map your exact dates, flights, and hotel options around the right weather window so you’re not guessing.
