- WHEN TO VISIT
Best Time to Visit Slovenia
Slovenia is a year-round destination depending on the type of trip you’re planning.
Spring
Spring offers mild weather, blooming landscapes, and fewer crowds. I went early May and had no waits anywhere we went. The weather was a bit chilly for a Floridian though!
Summer
Summer is ideal for lake activities, hiking, and outdoor festivals. This is also the easiest time to get shuttles at the tourist attractions and the best time to experience seasonal experiences.
Fall
Fall brings beautiful foliage and harvest season in Slovenia’s wine regions. The landscape is stunning during this time. The weather will be mild and enjoyable as well.
Winter
Winter transforms Slovenia into a cozy alpine destination with skiing and festive Christmas markets. Or, escape to the mountains for a cabin getaway.
Fun fact!
Many fantasy films and shows were filmed in Slovenia, including Narnia & The Witcher!

Answers to Your Questions about Slovenia
If you’re planning a trip to Slovenia, you may have questions about travel requirements, the best time to visit, and what to do while you’re there. These FAQs cover the essentials to help you plan your Slovenia vacation.
Got a question?
I get it. Travel can be intimidating. Feel free to email me with any questions you may have, and I’ll do my best to answer them.
How many days do you need in Slovenia?
Most travelers spend 5–7 days in Slovenia, which allows time to explore Ljubljana, Lake Bled, and the Julian Alps. On the other hand, I was there for 2 weeks and felt it wasn’t enough.
Is Slovenia expensive to visit?
Slovenia is generally more affordable than many Western European destinations while still offering incredible scenery and experiences. I found prices to be beyond reasonable, even though the locals saw them as expensive.
Is Slovenia good for outdoor travel?
Yes. Slovenia is known for hiking, cycling, rafting, skiing, and other outdoor adventures. It’s extremely walkable and even in the middle of the city, you’ll find a good amount of preserved nature to explore.
Is Slovenia safe for travelers?
Slovenia is considered one of the safest countries in Europe for visitors, making it a great choice for solo travel. As a solo female traveler, I had no concerns for my safety while there.
How do I get to Slovenia?
Slovenia does have an airport, but you might fight it’s cheaper to fly into neighboring airports like Venice, Munich, or Zagreb, then take the train in. This is where you may want to call in a travel advisor. Having experienced this trip myself, I can give you the pros and cons of all your options.
